LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – The organizers of the Oscars on Thursday moved the date of the 2022 ceremony to late March, a month later than initially deliberate, and stated that movies launched on streaming providers would once more qualify for Academy Awards consideration.
The Academy of Movement Image Arts and Sciences stated in an announcement that the Oscars ceremony would happen on March 27, 2022 on the present’s conventional house in Hollywood. The ceremony was initially scheduled for February 27.
No purpose was given for the date change.
The Academy added that as a result of coronavirus pandemic, it should for the second time permit motion pictures made primarily for launch in theaters that had been shifted to a streaming platform to be eligible for Oscar consideration.
Dozens of films have been launched on streaming providers comparable to Disney+, HBO Max, Netflix and Amazon prior to now 15 months whereas film theaters all over the world have been shuttered due to the pandemic.
The 2021 Oscars had been delayed from February to late April due to the pandemic and came about for the primary time at Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles.
