JOHOR government plans to nurture a healthy and active community through its “Sukan Makmur XTIF Johor 2021” tournament.
It will be organised by Johor Sports Council (MSNJ) starting next month.
Sports council director Nor Syazlan Abd Razak said the movement control order imposed last year affected everyone’s daily routine, not only in terms of work but also their time for exercise.
“The Sukan Makmur XTIF Johor 2021 initiative is to ensure that we can still conduct sports activities in the new norm, ” he said at the Sukan Makmur XTIF Johor 2021 organising committee meeting and handover of allocation at Bangunan Sultan Ismail in Johor Baru.
He added that the programme would see three main competitive sports, namely badminton, sepak takraw and netball, with a league concept.
The 56 state constituencies in Johor’s 10 districts will compete in the tournament.
The winner from each district will then compete to be state champion.
“These sports were chosen because they are popular, ” said Nor Syazlan.
He elaborated that each state constituency’s organising committee would be given a RM9,000 allocation, which was RM3,000 for each type of sport, totalling RM504,000 from the state government.
He highlighted that the sports council was responsible for the development of sports from the grassroots to the professional level.
The last time MSNJ organised a sports programme with the community was the Sukan Muafakat Johor in 2019.
“Organising sports programmes that involve the community has always been at the core of MSNJ.
“The aim here is to promote a healthy lifestyle to all Johoreans, ” he added.
The tournament will be held from May 21 to June 26 for badminton, May 21 to July 31 (netball) and May 21 to Aug 28 (sepak takraw).
